Tried & Tested – Jodhpurs

Trying to find a comfy pair of jods on a budget, especially with a good size phone pocket, can be a challenge.

On this Tried & Tested page I have bought and reviewed a pair of navy blue riding tights from Ebay and below are my findings….

Navy blue riding tights:

  • Brand – astileequineandpetsupplies – Ebay seller
  • Price – £20.99 (£21.99 for other colours)
  • Availability/Delivery – Delivered as expected, a few days after order
  • True to Size? – Yes
  • Durability – Worn and washed (inside out) multiple times, no loss of silicon
  • Colour-fast? – No dye loss during rain and washing
  • Riding Comfort – No awkward seams, very comfortable and lightweight
  • Silicon – Sticky enough to notice without being superglued into place. No silicon on seat panel, so no potential damage to saddle

Pro’s & Cons

Perfect jods and riding tights are a rare thing. There always seems to be something not quite right, especially when you’re looking for a pair for a budget pleasing price.

These are the pro’s and cons of these riding tights in my opinion:

Pros

  • Pocket – These tights have a large leg pocket that fits both my phone and my keys with no worries about them falling out mid ride. This is a big thing for me as pockets often tend to be far too small or on the waist which always seems a bad place to keep keys in case of an accident.
  • Stretch – Plenty of stretch and pull straight on.
  • Lightweight – Great for summer riding.
  • Sweat – Not often reviewed! But these don’t show sweat marks when you’ve had a hard ride, so a definite plus.
  • Durability – I’ve worn these multiple times, both for yard work, and for riding. They still look as good as new.
  • Length – These have plenty of length for taller riders, but enough silicone in the right places for more vertically challenged people like me.

Cons

  • Waistband – Could do with a little more stretch for those of us with larger hips. Once on they’re lovely, but I have to think whilst pulling them on as my hips are a little larger than the tights would like.
  • Lumps and bumps – I’m actually trying to find bad points about these tights so if I have to be picky, they do show off more of my lumps and bumps than I’d like. That’s probably because they’re lightweight, summer tights.

Conclusion

These are a great pair of budget friendly riding tights in a good range of colours with a pocket large enough to hold everything you need on a ride. They’re lightweight, comfortable, and don’t show evidence of a hard morning’s riding.

Whilst they’re not going to be your ‘go to’ show jodhpurs, they’re perfect for general and day to day riding and are cheap enough that you can buy one pair in every colour.
